The basics

What is neurofeedback?

Neurofeedback is biofeedback for the brain. Small sensors rest on your scalp and read your brainwave activity. Nothing is put into your body.

The software gives your brain moment-to-moment feedback through sound and music. Over time, your brain learns to settle into calmer, more flexible patterns on its own.

Most people find sessions deeply relaxing. You sit back in a comfortable chair, listen, and let the training do its work.

Approaches

Neurofeedback approaches Ellen offers

Two complementary ways to train a calmer, more resilient brain.

NeurOptimal®

NeurOptimal® is a dynamical neurofeedback system. It does not diagnose or target a single condition. Instead, it mirrors your brain’s activity back to it through brief pauses in music.

Those pauses help your brain notice moments of turbulence and reorganize itself. A typical session is about half an hour of quiet listening.

Alpha-Theta

Alpha-Theta training guides you into a deeply relaxed, eyes-closed state between waking and sleep.

Ellen often pairs this state with guided imagery, which can help you access and gently process emotional material. It is commonly used alongside psychotherapy for trauma, addiction recovery and stress.

Questions

Neurofeedback FAQ

Is neurofeedback safe?

Neurofeedback is non-invasive. The sensors only read your brain’s electrical activity, and nothing is sent into your body. Some people feel tired or a little wired after early sessions. These effects are usually mild and pass quickly.

Does it hurt?

No. Small sensors are attached to your scalp and ears with a dab of conductive paste. Most clients find sessions relaxing.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your goals and how your brain responds. Ellen will talk with you about a plan at your consultation, and you will review progress together as you go.

Can I combine neurofeedback with therapy?

Yes. Ellen often pairs neurofeedback with IFS, hypnotherapy and guided imagery. All therapies are available within her standard session pricing.

Where are sessions held?

Neurofeedback sessions take place in person at Ellen’s office at 2770 Main Street, Frisco, TX 75033, just north of Dallas.

Will Ellen’s service dog be there?

A certified service dog attends all in-person sessions. Please let Ellen know ahead of time if you would prefer not to be around her dog.

Interested in body-based training too? Biofeedback teaches you to calm your breathing, heart rate and muscle tension.
